North of Great Britain, the cold and writhing waters of the North Sea wash and shape an archipelago formed by 18 islands, the Faroe Islands. Most of the population is of Scandinavian origin, but the spoken language is Faroese, their own language with a dialect that resembles an Icelandic one. In school they learn English as a foreign language. Torshavn is the capital island, and the currency used is the euro even though the official currency is the crown of the Faroese. Although they are independent, the Faroe Islands does not have its own army. Therefore, Denmark provides defense for the islands since the Faroe Islands is an autonomous region of Denmark.
