Finland Holidays – Travel To The Land Of A Thousand Lakes

Finland or the Land of A Thousand Lakes, in Finnish Sumoi, or the Republic of Finland, is situated in Northern Europe with opening to the Baltic Sea through the Gulf of Finland. The Republic situated in the Scandinavian Peninsula is formed by 6 provinces: South Finland, West Finland, East Finland, Oulu, Laponia, and Aland. Many of the tourist attractions in Finland are in the World Heritage List of UNESCO. These are Old Rauma, Suomenlinna Fortress, Petajavesi Old Church, Verla Groundwood and Board Mill, Kvarken Archipelago, and Struve Geodetic Arc. The main cities in Finland are: Helsinki, the capital, Tampere, Turku, Lahti, Oulu and Pori. Helsinki, initially a fishing village became the country’s capital. In present, it is the economic capital of Finland, important international companies headquarters located in it. An important tourist attraction is the Helsinki Cathedral (Tuomionkirkko), a mixture of gothic renaissance and Russian orthodox. Today it is a Lutheran Church. The main tourist attractions in Helsinki are: Turku Castle and the Cathedral, which hosts the History Museum, both dating back from the 13th century, Ateneum Art Museum which has the largest art and sculpture collection in the country, Kiasma, Helsinki City Art Museum, Korkeasaari Zoo, Sibelius Monument, and the Rock Church (Temppelinaukio).
