Bosnia Herzegovina Travel Information
Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country shaped like a heart situated in the middle of Southeast Europe. Here have met the Eastern and Western civilizations, sometimes they had conflict, but most of the times they helped and supported each other throughout a long and fascinating history. Bosnia-Herzegovina is a long name for a country that has a little over 50,000 km². Bosnia covers the northern and central regions of the country, the name probably coming from the word "bosana" of Indo European origin, which means water. The southern region of the old Hum was named Herzegovina after it was conquered by the Ottomans. Talking about Bosnia-Herzegovina is hard not to remember the Yugoslavian wars, which took place in the Balkan territories for the most part of the 1990s. The losses consisted in thousands of human lives, villages and cities left in ruins. Despite all of this, Bosnia remained a beautiful country, and its rivers never lost their charm. The reach culture and history can be seen in the beautiful mosques, in amphitheaters and Catholic altars. Its land varies from forests and mountains to hills and straight plains.
